Logistics becomes connected and digital
Logistics becomes connected and digital thanks to telematics. Innovations for monitoring transportation presented at Let Expo
To protect the quality of shipments (by land, sea or air) up to the destination by monitoring goods in real time and detecting several critical parameters related to transportation. With these goals comes the Supply Chain Visibility solution from LoJack® by LoJack Italia, a company active in offering telematics solutions for mobility and stolen vehicle recovery, announced today during LET Expo, the fair on sustainable logistics, transportation and services underway in Verona.
By leveraging the data provided by the platform, manufacturers, logistics operators, consumers and certifying bodies can be assured that their shipments meet strict safety and compliance requirements and arrive quickly. An argument all the more valid for the food and drug transportation chain, which require specific and stable transport conditions.
The platform
The platform provides data collection and reporting that enables digital shipment management. The solution makes use of a wide range of wireless sensors and devices that can be attached to assets.
These Tags are small smart sensors that provide a global view of the goods (from the pallet to the individual parcel), dialoguing in Bluetooth mode with the telematics device on board the vehicle that transmits data on some critical parameters such as temperature, humidity, light exposure, shock, vibration and position throughout the transport phase.
Placed, for example, on a parcel being transported in a commercial vehicle, it can signal in real time the presence or absence of the goods being transported, while the device reports the exact location of the vehicle. In addition, in the event that work tools or other valuable goods are forgotten, the system will identify the last known location and alert managers and drivers for quick retrieval.
Logistics
"Logistics companies today face new challenges related to supply chain visibility, risk and shipment performance, aspects that have a significant impact on customer satisfaction and also on the bottom line," explained Maurizio Iperti, President LoJack EMEA. "For this reason, the visibility and integrity of products can prove even more valuable than the assets that transport them, and loss of control of the Supply Chain can cause knock-on repercussions.
LoJack solutions are designed to provide complete control over the entire supply chain at any time, signaling notifications in case of critical environmental conditions on temperature, humidity, light, shock or movement or in relation to other parameters such as location, distance from the point of origin."
These are solutions for the entire logistics sector, designed to make road, rail, ship and air transport connected and digital. Thanks to Smart Tags, shippers can, in addition, know the time taken by goods along the route, how long they have been stationary and much more.
By leveraging the data provided by the platform, manufacturers, logistics operators, consumers and certifying bodies can be assured that their shipments meet strict safety and compliance requirements and arrive quickly. An argument all the more valid for the food and drug transportation chain, which require specific and stable transport conditions.
